Brishapati's Story
We first met Brishapati when she was a baby, playing in the trash of the Khalpar Slum. Her parents work as a rickshaw puller and housekeeper. Her father, Raju, had been married previously, and had two sons, but when that woman died, he met and married Kalpana (her mom). Together, they had Brishapati and her two younger sisters.
As with many of the families we have shared with you from the slum, her father was an alcoholic and her mother had to work more to feed her children, ultimately leaving her girls to fend for themselves. The environment was very hostile and harsh. Brishapati was not cared for and suffered from skin rashes and disease. Sometimes, the only food she would have would be from SEED Society programs.
She was admitted to school, thanks to SEED, but due to her home life - she had difficulty focusing on school. She also developed a very hard and cold demeanor.
The hope was, when she moved into the Girls Dream Home in 2018, she would receive love, stability, safety and security that would sharpen her study skills and soften her heart.
While our tiny girl is still very spunky, she has learned to smile and laugh. She loves to be a part of the activity but shys away from the spotlight.
We are SO thankful to get to watch her learn that it’s safe to be loved.
