Women's Empowerment Program
We talk a lot about our kids, and the incredible journeys they are on and rightly so, they are amazing and are working to overcome so much in their young lives. But the goal of SEED is to take people out of survival mode so they can begin to heal their communities from within. So, in addition to the children, SEED Society also does some significant work in helping the family unit by working with moms.
Generally, all women in Indian society face problems of sexual discrimination, illiteracy and the dowry system. Then, the women in the villages and slums are also considered "untouchables" - the lowest stratum of the caste system. They are often only considered for jobs such as maidservants and other sanitation/housekeeping roles. They really have zero choices in life to help their families.
Until SEED developed a women's empowerment program to help the moms rise above the stigma and change their families and communities by working to obtain professional roles. This program is a true game-changer, aiming to uplift the women in the slums through skill-building and empowerment.
SEED has been helping women enroll in vocational training programs for tailoring and beautician courses. Through these courses, women learn a skill that help can them employ them by the same families that hired them as housekeepers but for twice the salary (or more).
The moms in the slums are full of potential but often limited by circumstances. Our program steps in, providing her with the tools and skills she needs to rise above challenges. The tailoring and beautician courses not only equip her with practical skills but also boost her confidence and self-esteem.
The beauty of these courses lies in their potential. They open up avenues for these women to explore better employment opportunities, breaking free from the restrictions of their previous circumstances. With these newly acquired skills, they can take steps towards financial independence and stability.
When you stand with us, when you offer your support, you become more than just donors; you become our partners. This partnership is crucial to the people of India.
Piyas and Jaiashree (our co-founders) describe it like a puzzle. Their role is to be on the ground in Kolkata, guiding and teaching those in their care. Our role in America is to pray for and support them, both financially and relationally. One can't exist without the other. We are puzzle pieces that work together. We are a team.
When you commit to regular financial support, you're essentially committing to being a part of this puzzle. You're not just giving; you're ensuring that every piece fits snugly, creating a complete picture of hope, progress and change.
But partnership isn't just about financial support. It's about investing in a vision, sharing in the wins and the heartbreak, and being part of a community that's dedicated to making a difference. Your partnership amplifies the impact, extends our reach and gives strength to the voices that might otherwise go unheard.
